A good neighbor 18-03-2012

Every now and then people ask us what they should do in case it might rain during their visit. Well, quite a lot can be done actually; take a course in cooking the Chinese way or go undergrounds wandering through one of the numerous caves in the area or..... visit our neigbors.

Jason is Master in the martial arts and in his new roofed place you can take lesson's in Kung Fu and Tai Chi, or learn how to fight with stick and sword. Lia has a small place next to our terrrace where she can teach you Calligraphy or Chinese painting. Learning to speak a bit of Chinese she'll be happy to do too, possibly while playing a game of MahJong.

So, when rain might come, there's enough to do to keep you busy around the Giggling Tree!

Great donation for the school! 27-09-2011
During the past Summer, many people pleasantly surprised us with different donations for the local school. Apparantly, the charity link we put online earlier this Summer, draws a lot of attention. Recently, we loaded up a small tuk-tuk to drive to the school and we delivered the many clothes, the school supplies and the money. The teachers and the children were very happy to receive the donation. The school will use the money to renovate/build the pingpong tables, that are really run down at the moment. Because we also received some larger clothes, we also gave some clothes to the people in the village where the Giggling Tree is located. To all of you who donated something, the school and the village would like to thank you very much for your gift!!

Harvesting of the rice has begun! 22-08-2011
It is that time of the year again...the harvesting of the rice on the fields around the Giggling Tree has started. The rice is picked from the fields and then a machine separates the plant from the rice. The plants are strapped together in order to dry on the field. The rice is taken home to dry for a few days.  After that, another machine will separate the rice from its shell and then...the rice is ready to eat! So lots of activity on the rice paddies nowadays, and the view on the fields in all their different colours is amazing!

News-flash! 07-08-2011
It has been a while since our last update, but there was a good reason: it's been busy! Not only with guests, it is the peak season after all, but also with several changes in and around the Giggling Tree! First of all, we finished the 'ping pong paradise'! The tabletennis table (lit at night!) is situated in a nice and cozy corner near the terrace.  Also, we've installed two ceiling fans in our covered terrace; to get a nice breeze during those hot summer days. And last but not least, we've finished building an extra public toilet and a shower, both situated in the courtyard. For everyone who leaves late and still wants to do something during the day, they can now freshen up afterwards! We hope these changes will help make your stay at the Giggling Tree even better!!

New school furniture! 27-06-2011

Ode to the Giggling Tree (made by poet De Romein) 26-05-2011

Guarded by two old

Mao-walls

these girls

of the giggling tree

take care

They just take care

The small family

guided dutch

makes this man

on a mission

a smiling man

Like they say

in France

leaving is dying a bit

but going from here

my giggling smile

will be the only scar

The Roman, 23rd of May, Yangshuo

** The Dutch poet De Romein, who was a guest at our guesthouse, created this beautiful poem on the spot. For those who would like to read more of his work, he just published a book with a collection of poetry called 'Model gedichten' (model poems). Like others paints with paint, he paints with words. An ode to all women.**

Raaf the rabbit has a new home (or better: palace!) 25-05-2011
After weeks of carpenting and painting, the moment was finally there: the new rabbit house is finished! Little bunny Raaf, who's actually quite a rabbit now (he's gotten so BIG), has moved into his new home. The house was so nice, even Pelle wanted to move in!

They said goodbye, we say hello (message from the new managers) 13-05-2011
After a great 6 months with Mark & Nicole as managers, it was time to say goodbye to them and say hello to Daniël & Marloes, the new managers. They will work together with the owners Karst & Paulien to make your stay at the Giggling Tree unforgettable. Big hits we already had as a new team were the Easterparty/brunch and the 'We all love the Queen' quiznight.  Of course there's much more to come, so stay tuned...

The birds of the Giggling Tree 28-07-2010

The longer we live here the more we realise that there are a lot of birds around the Giggling Tree. In the big (Giggling) tree some magpie made a huge nest, and in the courtyard the housemartins found some cracks between the adoben to hide their nest, while in the nearby fruittree the White Eye family build it's tiny nest, to have an offspring of 3 tiny chicks. In our garden we hear the bulbuls feasting on the bloom of the trees, while the Myna and Shrike find a place on the electricity wire.
